Fireworks in Rome June 29, 2016 in honor of Saints Peter and Paul

On June 29, Rome celebrated the feast of the patrons of the city, Saints Peter and Paul. The celebrations ended with the famous “Girandola” on Pinchio Hill, where fiery fireworks danced to the accompaniment of classical melodies.

I, on the advice of my friend and colleague guide Irina Kravchenko, climbed the Gianicolo hill (Yanikul) - one of the best viewing platforms in Rome. Irina, on the other hand, watched the salute at the Piazza del Popolo. Here is what Irina told me:

“Since 2008, the city resumed Michelangelo’s project, when a colorful performance of pyrotechnics and music was launched from the terraces of Angel Castle. Now the holiday has been moved to Pinchio (Villa Borghese), in honor of the architect Virginio Vespignani, who organized a pyrotechnic show here back in 1870. "

This year, the salute was to the music of the period of Italian romanticism (19th century).
