The deepest pool in the world opens near Venice

In the Y-40 pool in Montegrotto, everyone will have the opportunity to swim, in fact, in a giant cylinder with thermal water of 40 meters depth.

Digging a pit ended only the day before yesterday, on December 19, when a symbolic mark was reached - 40 m. And according to the plan, in the spring visitors will be able to feel what it is like to swim at such a depth. It really will be a pool. But not a simple pool, but the deepest in the world: 7 meters deeper than the Nemo33 in Brussels. And it is only half an hour from Venice or 10 km from the historic center of Padua: the pool is located in the four-star Hotel Millepini in the SPA resort of Montegrotto Terme.

The record holder will not be included in the Guinness Book of Records 2014 for only one reason: they simply will not have time to make it there, since this year’s edition they decided to coincide with Christmas and print out in the coming days.

"Soon a team should arrive from London to assess the depth, but they are already anticipating the record: our pool is the deepest in the world, we will be in the Guinness Book of Records 2015 edition," commented project architect Emanuele Boaretto.

His pool was called Y-40, where Y comes from the traditional designation of the abscissa and ordinate axes: the vertical axis, the ordinate itself (if someone does not remember the coordinate system), is used to indicate depth. The surface area of the water is 21x18 m. The pool consists of a "normal" part (so to speak about a depth of 10 meters) and a cylindrical compartment following it, a kind of tube plunging to a depth of 40 m and containing a water volume of about 4300 m3. Moreover, the water here is thermal with a constant temperature of 32-34 degrees, and the descent is illuminated by spotlights. "The structure will be absolutely safe. During digging the foundation pit, we walked through various layers and types of soil, but all of them provide excellent support for our pool."

In addition to the pool, an aquarium will be arranged here: huge glasses and a suspension bridge (by the way, also unique in its kind) will allow visitors to watch scuba divers descending into the depths of the waters. Or land - it depends which side to look at.

Several teams of professionals in various fields worked on the project. “Here we are talking about significant collaboration between architects and engineers. More than twenty different companies took part in the project, bringing together about 200 people. Up to the point that tiles were specially developed for us, since at such a depth the pressure reaches 4 atmospheres " In other words, 1 square centimeter of tile experiences a pressure of 4 kilograms.

The pool will become a paradise for scuba divers and divers of all stripes. Special courses and even more will be organized here: Umberto Pelizzari, an Italian diver who set world records in all possible scuba diving disciplines, will take part in the training. He and his colleagues will coordinate the diving training methodology. But anyone who can have the courage to do this can try to dive into the depths.
