How to get from Bologna to Florence

The distance from Bologna (Bologna) to Florence is 108 kilometers. Getting from Bologna to Florence is the fastest by train, but you can use a bus or a rented car. Let's look at the features of each method in detail.

By train

From the Bologna Centrale central station to Florence, ItaloTreno and Trenitalia high-speed trains leave several times an hour. - This is a comfortable, fast and often the most economical way, the journey time is only 35 minutes.Florence Central Station, called Santa Maria Novella (SMN), is literally a 15-minute walk from the main attractions.

Italotreno

A Italotreno train ticket, bought at the last moment online or at the station, will cost from 23 euros.

A first class ticket (Prima) costs 32.90 euros.

If you take care of logistics, at least for a month, then there is a chance to buy tickets to Florence cheaper - for 15.90 or even for 9.90 euros.

If possible, I only use Italotreno trains myself, I recommend them to all my friends and readers of our site. But to be objective, I’ll talk about alternative options.

Training

If fate forces you to travel by train to Trenitalia, then I check the schedule and book a ticket online on the Omio.ru website - the prices are exactly the same, only it’s not buggy, it does not slow down, it works perfectly, there is adequate technical support. The site allows you to compare all tickets, including Italotreno and choose the cheapest or, for example, the fastest way to get.

The cheapest way to get from Florence to Bologna is by regional trains with a change at Prato Centrale station.

Travel time will be 1 hour 42 minutes, and the trip will cost you only 9.44 euros. If you have free time and a desire to save 13 euros, then regional trains are your option.

Frecciarossa Trenitalia high-speed trains also run on the Bologna Centrale - Firenze S.M. Novella route several times per hour, but they are not so comfortable and the cost of tickets is higher.

For example, standard tickets in the second class (Standart) will cost you 29 euros, and for a business (Business) you will have to pay 45 euros - for a comparable amount you can already take the first club class (Club Executive) from Italotreno.

In this video, on the 7th minute, I tell you what a club car looks like:
